America's Youngest Outcasts: State Report Card on Child Homelessness book and web site
print | web
Over the past year, The National Center on Family Homelessness has gathered data on child homelessness in the US and, this March, released its findings in a 220-page report and coordinating web site that look at the problem nationally and on a state-by-state basis.
We designed the book, which sets the overall visual brand for the report card. The book combines information design, text, icon design, and custom photography to present the information on this issue in a way that is compelling and clear. Each state has a spread with data points (see below) and all states are ranked on extent of child homelessness, risk, well-being, and state policy and planning. Maps and tables were designed to quickly convey all of this information.
A coordinating web site, with an interactive map, presents this material and offers additional features. A state-by-state blog, newsroom, and information on becoming involved in the issue are all included.
